DEMOLITION CONTRACTOR SAFELY & EFFICIENTLY PERFORMED THE REMOVAL OF ESCALATORS FOR THE COOK COUNTY DETENTION CENTER DEMOLITION PROJECT.
Alpine interior demolition contractor performed the demolition and removal of (6) existing escalators at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center. Two of the escalators spanned from the lower level to the ground floor. The other four escalators spanned from the ground floor to the third floor and were in a stacked position.
A few noteworthy obstacles Alpine overcame while removing these were the extremely tight quarters to perform the work due to their location and placement. The four stacked escalators were adjacent to glass curtain walls on both sides which provided zero room for error.
They were also located right outside the judge’s offices, and adjacent to heavy pedestrian traffic areas so noise and torching restrictions were maximized. Temporary protection was placed over the existing walls, floor heaters, flooring, along with other areas. Flaggers were utilized to help assist pedestrian traffic while debris was being transported from the area. Alpine completed the removals of the (6) escalators ahead of schedule and without any safety incidences.
