PROJECTS
Alpine has performed a wide array of projects since its inception.
The old Glenview Library was removed for a new parking garage adjacent to the new library and busy streets. This two story structure with basement was removed by Alpine’s crew efficiently and with speed. Material was separated and recycled to the maximum. Streets were kept clean and dust was minimized.
Several downtown multistory buildings have been demolished including 6 East Lake St. This building had a party wall with an adjacent building owned by com-ed. The CTA el tracks were in front of the building. The east side of the building was along State St and the rear of the building was an alley. Work had to be coordinated with Com-Ed, the City of Chicago, the CTA and adjacent property owners.
In Elmhurst, the historic Wilder Mansion was restored by removing the two story addition that was added as a library. Alpine’s crews carefully protected and hand separated the two story addition from the historic portion to remain. Concrete was recycled onsite and utilized for backfill.
Alpine also has done a lot of projects around rail road tracks including the removal of a Railroad Control Tower on Clinton St. in down town Chicago. The project entailed removing an elevated two story tower adjacent to commuter train tracks that lead to one of Chicago’s main train stations. A comprehensive plan was engineered and followed to the satisfaction of both public and private rail road authorities. All work had to be coordinated with flag man and could not interrupt railroad operations.
Rt. 31 was demolished over I-88 in North Aurora. 120,000 lb concrete beams were removed at night utilizing two 300 ton cranes for the first phase and a 550 ton crane for the second phase. Partial and full lane closures were utilized. Work was closely coordinated with the Illinois State Tollway, the General Contractor, other trades and local authorities. Scheduling was critical and safety was of the upmost concern.
The Aurora Hollywood City of Lights was moved and demolished in the Fox River. A careful plan was devised and stringently followed during the move and demolition process. The project was completed with minimal impact on the environment.
